What We Believe

We believe in one God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Jesus is God’s Son. Jesus reveals to us that God is our Father, and that God is available to us through the Holy Spirit. Read more God is Love What God creates, God loves; and what God loves, God loves everlastingly. If we have done wrong, God does not reject us. On the contrary, He loves us and longs for us to return to the right path so we will be truly fulfilled and happy. The Trinity The doctrine of the Trinity means that there is one God who eternally exists as three distinct Persons — the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God the Father created the universe and keeps it in being. He has made us his sons and daughters to share his joy and care for his world and each other. Jesus was born of Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit. He became one of us, sharing our life and our death. He made known to us God's forgiveness, love and compassion. The Holy Spirit unites us to Christ and gives life to the Church. He brings us to repentance and assures us of forgiveness. The Holy Spirit guides us in understanding the Bible, renews us in the sacraments and calls us to serve God in the world. He gives spiritual gifts to the church and bears spiritual fruit through changed lives and a transformed society. Jesus as the human face of God God became a human being as Jesus Christ. His death on the cross shows how much God loves you. God will never give up on you. He has promised to win every battle He enters into with you. Bible is the divinely inspired word of God The books of the Bible were written by human beings inspired by God's Holy Spirit. As Anglicans, we appeal to Scripture, Tradition, and Reason. We pay attention to what the great saints, scholars and mystics (past and present) have said about Bible interpretation and Church doctrine. The Bible's message is not a mixture of doctrines we can select from. Many people like the verses that say God loves them, but they dislike the verses that say God will judge sinners. But we cannot pick and choose what we like about the Bible and throw the rest away. God has said what He has said, and the Bible presents a full picture of who God is and who I am. Repentance Repentance is a key step in becoming a Christian and to follow Jesus. At the beginning of his public mission, Jesus said, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near." (Matthew 4:17) Genuine repentance is, however, more than just feeling regret and being sorry. Repentance (in Greek "metanoia") means to change our minds and hearts, to turn and face a new direction, and to walk back toward God (and as such, it is a synonym for faith/belief/trust). The Church Christianity is about relationship and community. That is why we have Church. According to Scripture, the church is the local body of believers saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. It is God’s creation. God builds it, provides for it and protects it (Matthew 16:18). Paul even mentions that Jesus died for the church and often refers to it as His bride (Ephesians 5:25). Clearly, God loves His church! The Church is visible and invisible, fully human and fully divine; home to people of every nation, race and language (Revelation 7:9-12), united in one faith and love, committed to each other for the worship of God, the preaching of the Word, administering Baptism and the Lord's Supper, pastoral care, discipline, and evangelism. Rediscovering our ancient tradition in recent times Many in our society and even in the Church have lost touch with our sacred past, its ancient wisdom and its beautiful traditional rituals. At All Souls, we are on a voyage of rediscovery, and we warmly invite you to join us!
